Today we’re making sugar cookies inspired by everyone’s favorite little monster, the Goon from Goodnight Goon!

Here are the basic things you’ll need for the recipe:

3 Cups All – Purpose Flour

    ¾ Teaspoon baking powder

    ¼ teaspoon salt

    1 cup unsalted butter, softened

    1 cup sugar

    1 egg, beaten

    1 tablespoon milk

    2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

    Royal icing

    Powdered Sugar

    Pumpkin shaped cookie cutters

    Rolling pin

    Electric Mixer

    2 Large Bowls

    A Baking Sheet

    Candy Eyes

    Toothpicks

Once you have all of your ingredients it’s time to bake!

    Here are the Steps:

In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder & salt.

In another bowl, mix your butter and sugar.

Once the two have become a creamy texture, add your egg, vanilla extract and milk.

Then, gradually add your flour from before!

Once your dough is nice and smooth, wrap it up and refrigerate for a couple of hours.

While your dough is cooling, preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

When your dough has finally chilled it’s time to cut out some cookies!

Cover your work surface with powdered sugar so that it doesn’t get sticky.

Now begin rolling out your cookie dough.

Once everything looks even, cut out your pumpkin shaped cookies

Place your pumpkins on a greased baking sheet, making sure they’re at least 2 inches apart.

Now bake for about 10 minutes, or until the edges start to brown.

When they’re finished baking, remove the tray and allow them to cool for at least 3 minutes. Then move them to a wire rack.

Allow the cookies to completely cool. We suggest leaving them overnight.

Now it’s finally time to decorate!

Using white royal icing, outline the entire pumpkin cookie.

Next, fill in your pumpkin with more icing.

Use a toothpick to even out any gaps.

    Allow this step to harden.

Once your icing has completed drying, It’s time to begin drawing the Goon!

Using green royal icing, begin by drawing an oval for the head.

Like we did with the pumpkin, fill it in with more icing.

    Now draw the ears!

When you’re finishing drawing the head, allow the icing to dry again.

Next, add eyebrows and some warts on the Goons face. Feel free to get creative!

Then grab your candy eyes and add a small drop of black icing to the back.

Gently place your candy eyes right below his eyebrows, allowing the black icing to ooze out from underneath.

Give your Goon a little nose below his eyes.

And last, draw the goons mouth!

We hope you have fun making these cookies, and happy Halloween!
